Canada Day and more celebrations this weekend

This Canada Day long weekend take the time to celebrate the history of Canada and what it means to you. Whether you are staying in town, off to the cottage or going camping, remember the roots of how Canada came to be — from the days since July 1, 1867, at 12:00 noon, when Ontario (Upper Canada), New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec joined together with the Queen’s proclamation to announce the birth of a new country – the Dominion of Canada, to the current Canada you know today.

As Stittsville celebrates this Canada Day weekend, there are a couple of events that you won’t want to miss.

The first takes place on Sunday, June 30 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Village Square Park where you will find an atmosphere filled with everything Mexican. San Jose Mexican foods/ taqueria and the Mexican Market Community Ottawa are co-hosting a Fitness Day Party to Benefit Destiny’s Way Foundation. You will discover Mexican food, jewelry, arts, desserts and more! DJ Latin Lover is joining the party, salsa class, zumba class, & yoga class by donation all to benefit the Destiny´s Way Foundation for autism.

The Fitness Party Day will benefit www.destinysway.ca foundation with all money collected from the classes and vendors fees to be donated to the Autism Society and a local family who have children with the spectrum. Patricia Ramirez of Coaching Wellness Life will be on hand to lead the way in the zumba and yoga classes. To find out more about Patricia you can see her Facebook page here.

The second event, an annual celebration you have been waiting all year long for is Canada Day. Stittsville will be celebrating at the Sacred Heart Catholic High School’s school grounds and promises to be great way to spend some family time and take in all the celebration has to offer. There will be some traditional attractions, along with some new, but you can be guaranteed that live music will be entertaining you all afternoon and evening. From great inflatables, horse and wagon rides, face painting, petting zoo, free birthday cake and glow sticks, there will be something for everyone. Local food vendors — Crave Tacos, Pong’s Poutine, Jo-Jo’s Pizza and Jo-Jo’s Creameria — will be on-site to satisfy your tastebuds. It all starts at 1:00pm on July 1st.

Do stop by the Rock Out For Jack Water Station and Fundraiser sponsored by the Brown family. Their son, Jack, is a young boy living with CHARGE syndrome and his family will be accepting donations toward some of his ongoing medical expenses.
