The Sundance Artisan Show is known for its welcoming atmosphere, scenic outdoor setting, and diverse selection of artisans. Just one hour’s pleasant drive from Ottawa, the show has become a cherished annual tradition for artists and visitors alike. This year is its 20th, as they proudly celebrate the artistic talent of the whole region during the weekend of September 5, 6 and 7.
In 2006, an idea took root in a beautiful garden on Zealand Road for a local art event. That year, a group of artists decided it was time for a new concept: a multi-artist exhibition in one spot in the countryside instead of visitors having to drive between studios. This concept turned out to be a hit, and the Sundance Artisan Show was born.
In 2011, the show relocated to a larger property along the Fall River in Maberly, where it could grow and continue to evolve while maintaining its original mission: providing the region’s artists a beautiful venue where visitors can experience a wide variety of quality artwork in one convenient location.
The setting is gorgeous along the shores of the Fall River in Maberly, and the atmosphere is laid back and very friendly. Throughout the sunny meadow, visitors can explore an impressive range of handcrafted works from both established and emerging artists, including woodworking, stained glass, artisan soaps, fibre art, jewellery, clothing, pottery, and more. While you’re there, treat yourself to gourmet chocolates or a BBQ maple bacon sausage. On the lower-level, feel free to bring a chair and enjoy sitting next to the peaceful Fall River with the sound of gentle rapids and picturesque view of old mill ruins.
Stittsville artisan, Cheryl McCrory is again showcasing her beautifully handcrafted rope bowls, baskets, and plant hanger creations at the Artisan Show. Cheryl shares, “My work is inspired by the textures of nature, the rhythm of slow living, and a deep appreciation for craftmanship. No two items are ever exactly alike – each creation tells its own story, stitched with care and character”.
The popular destination typically welcomes 3,000 visitors over the weekend. Admission and parking are free, with donations appreciated. Bring the family for a memorable Labour Day Weekend and celebrate local creativity while connecting with friends and neighbours.
The show spans all three days of the long weekend – September 5, 6 and 7 – at 126 Maberly-Elphin Road, Maberly, Ontario (at the intersection of Highway 7 and County Road 36). Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., and Monday from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
