Charges laid in Hazeldean Road car-jacking

At 11:50pm on Wednesday night, Ottawa Frontline police officers responded to a carjacking in the 5000 block (Shoppes at Fairwinds area) on Hazeldean Road.

A male suspect took the victim’s keys and stole his vehicle. Responding officers located the vehicle a short distance away following several calls to 911 about an erratic driver in the area. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the male suspect without incident.

The 41-year old suspect, Ernest Schuhknecht, of no fixed address, has been charged with Robbery; Impaired operation of a conveyance; Refusal to comply with a demand; Dangerous operation of a conveyance; Failure to stop after an accident; Resisting a Peace Officer; Theft over $5000;  Possession of stolen property over $5000; and, Breach of probation.

The suspect appeared in court Thursday to face the charges.
