Councillor Gower is sharing a new event he is launching in September – Stittsville Neighbour Days – to encourage residents to organize small get-togethers in their neighbourhood. The city has begun public consultations for the development of Fernbank District Park – make sure your voice is heard at Engage Ottawa (link below). Students attending French schools in Stittsville return to school this week – be sure to stay alert and help keep our roads and school zones safe. Capital Pride week was recognized in Stittsville on August 23rd with the Councillor’s fifth annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at Village Square Park. There will be maintenance closures at CARDELREC, which may affect regular programming – see the details and dates below. Stittsville Neighbour Days
We’re launching a new Stittsville event called “Stittsville Neighbour Days” to encourage residents to organize small get-togethers in their neighbourhood.
Get to know the people on your street with a potluck, a movie night, a park clean-up, or anything else that brings your street together. The goal: Encourage new connections between neighbours, and build community spirit in Stittsville. Because strong neighbourhoods – and strong connections – are incredibly important for our overall health and well-being.
Talk to a few of your neighbours on the street, and pick a date and time for your event. It can be any day between September 18-27, 2026. Check out my web site for event ideas and more information…
See the draft plan for Fernbank District Park
The city has begun public consultations for the development of Fernbank District Park. Visit the city’s online engagement platform, Engage Ottawa, to download a high-resolution version of the concept plan and learn more about the project. You can provide feedback via email or by taking a survey, available until Thursday, September 10, 2026. (Our office will also be hosting an in-person event to gather your input—details to be announced soon.)
Fernbank District Park is a central part of the Fernbank Community Design Plan. It’s a large, triangular site — over 8 hectares in area — located north of the Trans Canada Trail. It will be by far the largest park in Stittsville when complete.
The park design concept includes a range of features including a football field, cricket pitch, tennis and pickleball courts, a soccer field, a fitness area, a basketball court, a hockey rink, a splash pad, and lots more.
Back to school!
Students in Stittsville’s French schools are back this week, including at the new École élémentaire publique Cassiopée on Cope Drive at Dagenham Street. English students return next week.
Ottawa Police are reminding everyone to stay alert and help keep our roads and school zones safe. With a significant increase in children walking, cycling, and taking the bus, it is vital for drivers to slow down and stay alert:
- Slow down and strictly obey posted speed limits in all school zones.
- Always pay full attention to the road—put the phone away and do not text and drive.
- Come to a complete stop at all stop signs and intersections; rolling stops are illegal and dangerous.
- Avoid blocking crosswalks or intersections when stopping in traffic.
- Wait for crossing guards to safely return completely to the sidewalk before resuming driving.
- Leave extra space around school buses, cyclists, and pedestrians.
- Always obey school bus signals, stopping in both directions on roads without a median when red lights are flashing.
By working together and staying vigilant, we can ensure every student arrives at school and returns home safely. More info…
Pride Flag Raising Ceremony
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday to kick off Capital Pride week with our fifth annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at Village Square Park. The rain stopped just in time for the event, featuring guest speaker Pat Nikolovski – better known as DJ PowrHaus. She’s a high school teacher, a community champion, and an award-winning DJ and entertainer – and a proud resident of Stittsville. She shared an inspiring message about connection, celebration, and community. More photos…
*CARDELREC annual maintenance
Please be aware of the following maintenance closures at CARDELREC, which may affect regular programming:
- Pool: Closed from August 17 – September 7
- Community Centre: Closed from August 31 – September 7
- Gymnasium: Closed from August 24 – October 4
There is also upcoming roof work that will limit parking for some spots at the rear of the building.
