I brought a motion to City Council earlier this year to rename the park in her memory. Marion lived in Stittsville for close to 68 years and played a vital role in the formation of many of our local groups and activities that have helped shape our community. She received the Roger Griffiths Memorial Citizen of the Year Award in 2000 and the City of Ottawa’s Community Activism Award in 2003 for her dedicated volunteerism in Stittsville.

Maple Grove speed cushions
This month we’ll see construction start for the installation of speed cushions along Maple Grove Road between Leveche and Santolina. This installation will reduce vehicle speeds and increase safety for everyone. More info…
Trans Canada Trail re-gravelling in October
Re-gravelling work will begin this October for a section of the Trans Canada Trail (Ottawa-Carleton Trailway) between Ashton and West Ridge Drive in Stittsville. This maintenance work will protect the trail base, restore eroded segments, level out surface depressions, and ensure safe, uniform footing for all trail users. Construction activities are anticipated to start in early October and finish by early November. More info…
Granite Ridge stormwater pond maintenance
The pond was de-watered by the contractor last week to provide access for the equipment needed to remove the sediment. The contractor hired a biologist to obtain a permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources for the collection of fish during the pond clean-out project. The contractor’s biologist was on site following the de-watering work and collected most of the fish in the pond, however several fish remained in the deepest section of the pond. The contractor is aware of the issue and is proceeding to collect the remaining fish in the pond as per their permit. More info…

Ensure your child’s vaccinations are up to date
Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is asking families to ensure their children and youth are up to date with their routine vaccines. Keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date is one of the most effective ways to protect them from serious illnesses, reduce disruptions to learning, and help prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable-disease in schools and the community.
To attend school in Ontario, under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) students need to be vaccinated against nine vaccine-preventable diseases or have a valid exemption on file with OPH. Parents and caregivers can visit OttawaPublicHealth.ca/ChildVaccines for more information on routine vaccines, where to get routine vaccines, and how to report routine vaccines to OPH.
