We think mother nature was saving all of the nice weather for fall’s arrival and what a glorious week it has been. Some brightness and history came to Stittsville Main Street when the Stittsville Village Association’s mural, entitled ‘Field Notes from Stittsville’, was unveiled on September 26th. An upcoming pop-up consultation for residents to share any thoughts will take place on October 3rd for the new Fernbank District Park. Again this year, the Rotary Club of Ottawa-Stittsville and the Legacy of Hope Foundation have come together for Truth & Reconciliation Day – an event is being held at the W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park on September 30th. Councillor Gower shares his thoughts and the facts regarding residential development and infrastructure – well worth reading. Have you registered for the Cleaning the Capital Fall 2026 Campaign? Special Advance voting for the 2026 Municipal Election takes place from October 1 to 4 at various locations. The Pretty Street Community Centre is being demolished this month to make way for future not-for-profit housing. The application for a zoning bylaw amendment at 560 Hazeldean Road goes to Planning & Housing Committee for approval on October 7th. Launching the Stittsville Main Street mural
On Saturday morning we celebrated the completion of a new mural on Stittsville Main Street. It’s called “Field Notes from Stittsville” and it graces the side of Pretty Pots Flower Shop just south of the Trans Canada Trail.
The mural was funded through Ottawa’s Paint It Up! mural program, and is a collaboration between artist Sasha French (Birdgirl Arts), the Stittsville Village Association, and over two dozen high school students who contributed their artistic talent. RONA stepped up to donate paint for the project as well.
It’s a beautiful new addition to Stittsville Main Street. Thanks to everyone who was involved in bringing this to life!
Fernbank District Park pop-up consultation
Our office will be hosting a pop-up consultation for the new Fernbank District Park on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 11:00 am. You can find us at Robert Grant Avenue Roundabout at Abbott Street along the Trans Canada Trail (opposite of Êcole Paul-Demarais). I’ll be there along with the City’s parks planning staff to listen to your feedback about the draft park design concept. More info…

September 30: Truth & Reconciliation Event
Join the Rotary Club of Ottawa-Stittsville and the Legacy of Hope Foundation for a Truth & Reconciliation Event at the W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park, 1751 Stittsville Main Street. This event will feature an Indigenous-led ceremony with activities including introductions, a craft table, a reflective walk along the park trail, and the laying of painted rocks in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Parking is available on nearby side streets and at the Stittsville United Church, or use public transit on OCTranspo Route 61 which will take you there!
NOTEBOOK: Why growth keeps coming even when the roads aren’t ready
“Can City Council pause housing development in Stittsville until Carp Road gets widened, or until LRT construction is finished?” That’s a question I get a lot from residents, and it sounds like a straightforward and logical idea. But under Provincial legislation, the answer is simply “no.”
We can stop a residential development if it doesn’t have water and sewer capacity, or if there’s no hydro hook-up. But as long as there is some road access, construction can proceed. (We can’t stop development because of a lack of schools or family doctors either.)
It’s hugely frustrating for residents. Our suburbs are growing fast right now. But the new transit projects and road upgrades planned to support this growth may not arrive for years. Read more…

Special Advance Voting Days for Ottawa’s Municipal Elections
Special Advance Voting Days for Ottawa’s 2026 Municipal Elections will take place from Thursday, October 1 to Sunday, October 4, between 10 am and 8 pm. During Special Advance Voting Days, eligible electors can vote at any of the 10 voting places across the City, regardless of their qualifying address. More info…
Demolition at 2 Pretty Street
This month, the City of Ottawa will begin demolition of the former Pretty Street Community Centre building at 2 Pretty Street in order to prepare the site for future not-for-profit housing.
A 2022 building audit for the Pretty Street building found the centre to be in “poor condition and nearing critical condition” in large part due to a significant mould issue in the basement. Earlier this year, the City launched a process to select a not-for-profit housing provider to develop a low-rise rental apartment building for the property. More info…
560 Hazeldean development application goes to commitee October 7
The application for a zoning bylaw amendment at 560 Hazeldean Road will be considered for approval by the City of Ottawa’s Planning & Housing Committee on Wednesday, October 7.
The proposal is to rezone the site, which is currently used as a golf practice facility, to allow the development of 98 homes (50 single detached homes and 48 townhomes). It’s the current site of the Kevin Haim Driving Range. More info…
