Stittsville Village Association AGM and 25th anniversary
The Stittsville Village Association is hosting its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Hazeldean Gardens (6130 Hazeldean Road). It’s their 25th anniversary and they’re inviting all past SVA members to attend.
They’re also hoping to sign up members and directors (voting members) who can fill some of the roles of current volunteers. The SVA organizes annual events like the Parade of Lights, Canada Day celebrations, and Arts in the Park. They’re also involved in community advocacy and special projects, like the recent mural painting on Stittsville Main Street. Regular SVA Board meetings are held the first Thursday of the month.
Current president Deanna Paolucci is also looking for photos of former members and volunteers, or any of your memories of SVA activities, especially from the earlier years. For more information about the SVA, visit the Stittsville Village Association web site or contact stittsvillevillage@gmail.com.

Amberway Park survey
Now that the ownership of Amberway Park is sorted out, we can begin a long-planned park renewal project. We’ve launched a survey to understand what residents might want to see at the east side of Amberway Park. Some ideas we’ve heard so far are landscaping improvements (gardens, trees, pathways), adult fitness equipment, and a play structure for older children. We’re open to hearing more suggestions. Call for volunteers to help maintain Stittsville’s outdoor skating rinks
We’re recruiting volunteers to help out at Stittsville’s outdoor rinks this year. There are 18 outdoor rink locations in our community, and every rink is maintained 100% by community volunteers. If you’d like to help out with snow clearing, flooding, maintenance or programming at these rinks, please contact our team at glen.gower@ottawa.ca and we’ll connect you with the rink operators and parks staff. Happy Heads winter hat collection
Happy Heads is warming hearts this winter! Audrey Anderson is a local high school student and founder of Happy Heads. We’re hosting a winter hat collection box outside of my ward office inside CARDELREC (1500 Shea Road). The campaign is collecting new winter hats (and handmade knitted hats) for local organizations including the Kanata Food Cupboard and Cornerstone Housing for Women. Your donations will help keep neighbours warm all winter long.

Johnny Leroux arena repairs
Temporary shoring has been installed at Johnny Leroux Arena while column rehabilitation work is completed. During construction, unforeseen deterioration was identified in several structural columns, requiring additional repairs to ensure the long-term safety, integrity, and service life of the facility. The upper row of seating is fenced off but should re-open by late November 2026 when the rehab work is complete.

Food insecurity in Ottawa
Everyone deserves access to enough nutritious, affordable, safe and culturally appropriate food. In 2025, 1 in 5 households (20.7%) did not have enough money to buy the food they needed. This can mean worrying about running out of food, having to compromise on the quantity or quality of food, or skipping meals altogether. Learn more about food insecurity at ottawapublichealth.ca/foodinsecurity.
