(press release)
The City of Ottawa, with Loblaw Companies Limited, will be collecting food and cash donations for the annual OC Transpo/Loblaw Christmas Food Drive to benefit the Ottawa Food Bank on Saturday, December 2.
OC Transpo buses will be parked outside participating Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, Your Independent Grocer and No Frills stores across Ottawa. (In Stittsville, the location is at Brown’s Independent on Stittsville Main Street from 9am-4:45pm.) Volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations. If you can’t make it out on December 2, you can donate online at ottawafoodbank.ca/octranspo. For every dollar you give, the Ottawa Food Bank can purchase about $5 worth of food because of their wholesale purchasing power.
This year marks the 33rd annual OC Transpo/Loblaw Christmas Food Drive. It is the Ottawa Food Bank’s largest single-day food drive of the year. It fills a need when many families are struggling to make ends meet and helps to ensure there is enough to eat during a time of year when demand is at its highest.
Food collected is delivered to four local food banks: the Ottawa Food Bank, FAMSAC Food Cupboard located in Nepean, the Stittsville Food Bank and the Kanata Food Cupboard.
