It’s always fun to listen to a couple of good acoustic guitarists intertwining their styles and melodies together. This week you can hear Ed and Bill perform an assortment of original songs and favourite covers of classic rock, folk, blues, and country.

Ed is a musical raconteur at heart. His songs are stories that reflect the human condition: our triumphs and failures, our joys and sorrows, what we gain and what we lose, our sufferings and our blessings, the evil that can entrap us, and the good that can save us, and of course, the affairs of love. For over ten years Ed played in the MidLife Crisis Rock ‘n Roll Band, a local band that performed at corporate functions and special events throughout the Ottawa area.

“MidLife was fun. We were middle aged guys reliving dreams and having a blast. We had such great vocal harmonies. In ‘94 we travelled to Liverpool, England, and played the Cavern Club during Beatlesfest. It was exceptional. Imagine … playing the Cavern … Liverpool … the city where the Beatles played! Wow!”

As a member of MidLife Crisis, he also performed ‘Canada Day’ in Kanata when the band opened for Canadian recording artist, ‘Valdy’, and again for ‘The Pete Best Band’ from Liverpool (Pete Best was the Beatles’ drummer before Ringo). Ed is a member of the Songwriters Association of Canada.

Bill is an amazing guitarist, songwriter, and artist. Years ago, he was the guitar player for the Riffs, a local Ottawa band especially popular over at the Carleton University Commons, not to mention street parties in the Glebe. Bill was also a lead guitarist for MidLife Crisis and added much to the vocal and musical depth of the band. Although his style is deeply rooted in the Blues and classic rock, Bill is currently into Bluegrass and Country Pickin’. An adventurous guitarist, he is eager to explore new and various approaches and forms.

Ed warned me that there is a possibility that some of their musical friends may show up to support and possibly even join in, so come for what promises to be a great even of guitar music!
