As part of its Youth Ministry, Grace Baptist Church, located at 2470 Huntley Road , is planning to run a Map & Compass Course for boys ages 13-17 from 8-12 August. The course consists of four days of instruction and practice leading up to an all-day Navigation Exercise on Saturday 12 Aug on Canadian Shield terrain on Crown Land southwest of Arnprior.
.
The maximum course load is eight boys divided into two groups of four for navigation. The course is taught by a deacon of the church who is a former infantry senior NCO and officer. He will be assisted by three other men, two for each group.
If acquiring the knowledge and skill to use a map and compass to successfully navigate in the wilderness piques your son’s interest and sense of adventure, do contact me.
The course does require commitment and focus. There is much to learn, homework, a bit of math, written and practical tests and mosquitoes in the bush. But it’s rewarding and successfully navigating in the wilderness builds confidence and leadership.
We aim to glorify God in all instructional periods and pray your son will be blessed both in practical terms and spiritually by this course. To that end, each day will end with a 25 minute gospel lesson/ discussion.
