EDITOR’S NOTE: We had great response to our article last week about Puppets Up! in Almonte, and you’ve told us that you’d like to hear about more fun events happening in our area, even if they aren’t right in Stittsville. So, introducing our new Field Trip series, with recommendations for events just a short drive away.
Our first field trip is to the Pakenham Fair on Saturday. Pakenham is a quiet little town about 30 minutes west of Stittsville. Admission to the fair is $4 for adults and kids get in for free. It features some uniquely old-fashioned events like a frog jumping contest, and a contest for best corn in the Ottawa Valley. You can bring your dog and enter your pooch in the Man’s Best Friend contest.
Besides the Fair, two places to check out are Scoop’s Ice Cream on Waba Road, and the historic Pakenham Five Span Bridge, built in 1903.
