Where did January go? The first weekend of February is almost here with a prediction of perfect winter weather to take in the fun events taking place in Stittsville and a fundraiser for Australia in Bell’s Corners.

Winterlude 2020 kicks off at 9:00 am. Here is what is happening this first weekend — Kickoff show on Sparks Street, featuring Sarahmée, DJ NDN, Virginia to Vegas and a special number highlighting the important role played by the Métis Nation in Manitoba’s entry into Confederation 150 years ago. Tim Hortons’ 2020 Winterlude International Ice Carving Challenge on Sparks Street. Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest at the Arts Court. Canadian Culinary Championships. Many shows at the National Arts Centre. In the Glebe: Stories from the North: An Outdoor Snow-Screening and family Roller skating. Rideau Hall’s Winter Celebration. Start out February by celebrating Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Join Holmespun Ice Cream from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Stittsville Market at the Barn as they hold their 2nd Annual Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Enjoy the many flavours of Holmespun Ice Cream’s cool breakfast treats!

Awesome Authors and local author, Catherine Austen, shares her tips and tricks on how to write a winning short story. Catherine is also one of the contest judges in the Awesome Authors writing contest. She will be holding an hour long session from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Grace Thompson Meeting Room at the Stittsville Branch of the Ottawa Public Library for children aged 9-12. Register here to participate.

Come out to The Little Red Spade (Stittsville Main Street) as they team up with San José Mexican Foods. This is your opportunity to Meet the Chef behind San José and taste, learn and enjoy! From 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

From 8:00 – 11:00 pm head over to Brew Revolution in the Jackson Trails Centre to hear The Keystrings Full Band.

Kichesippi Beer Company in collaboration with the Bells Corners community are fundraising for Australia with their Australia Bushfire Fundraiser. Enjoy live music and support the people on Saturday, February 1st! It kicks off at 7:00 pm (2265 Robertson Road). Live music from 8:00 – 11:00 pm.

Have some fun at the new Groundhog Day WinterFest from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Enjoy a skate and live music! There will be a togoggan and skate exchange. It all takes place at the Crossing Bridge Outdoor Rink at 27 Hobin Street. Come to find out if our own Wiarton Willie sees his or her shadow!

The weekly Open Mic with George Turcotte is happening at Brew Revolution from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. Don’t forget to bring your own instruments.

After a weekend of events, settle in Sunday night for Super Bowl 54, live from the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Kick-off is at 6:30 pm EST. The San Fran 49er’s play against the Kansas City Chiefs. Catch Jennifer Lopez and Shakira perform in the halftime show.
