Governor General David Johnston and his wife Sharon made made a low-key visit to last weekend’s Arts in the Park event.

They were cycling down the Trans Canada Trail from a home they own in Ashton, and stopped at Village Square Park at the corner of Stittsville Main and Abbott Street.  They chatted with residents and checked out some of the vendors.

Jeff Gallant, a local mortgage agent and a board member with the Stittsville Village Association, talked to them for a couple of minutes but had no idea who they were until somebody told him afterwards. He remembers that they were accompanied by two spandex-clad men (also on bikes) who were probably there for security.

Arts in the Park is an annual event run by the Stittsville Village Association.  Organizer Doug Sutherland said that over 70 vendors participated this year, including artists, authors, artisans, and food vendors.
