We have had many jazz soloists, quite a few duos, and the occasional trio jazz combo in the shop. But I think this will be the first time we have a jazz sextet to play for you, so don’t miss this special milestone!
The Free Associations is a group whose passion is instrumental jazz. They are a six-piece ensemble that includes saxophone, trumpet, flute, clarinet, drums, bass, piano and guitar. Their performances are a tapestry of original compositions and fresh arrangements of favourite songs woven together into a musical experience that aims to delight the soul. From straight-ahead jazz to the avant-garde, from blistering bebop to lushly harmonized ballads, from sensuous latin jazz to re-imagined pop/rock tunes, it’s an unforgettable sonic journey.
Come along and pretend you are in a small jazz club off Broadway in New York City; except that we take Canadian money at par, (and the parking is easier and safer!)
We also have lined up some more great local artists for the rest of February and early March:
- Friday Feb 19th: Talented local guitarist and mentor – Neil Bateman entertains us again
- Friday Feb 26th: – convergence of stars – The amazing keyboards and vocals of Gretchen Martin together with the guitar styles of Alan Sandeman.
- Friday March 4th: Roland Doucet brings back his guitar and familiar songs from many decades
- Friday March 11th: Andrew Waines plays in the soft-rock-blues genre, including both originals and covers. The Free Associations play Gaia Java on Friday, February 12 at 7:00pm.
