Local artist Kayla Villalta designs this year’s 9runrun medal and ribbon

There are so many small details that go into creating a finisher’s medal.

This year’s 9runrun medal is a perfect example of this. The ribbon was inspired by a local Stittsville artist Kayla Villalta.

Kayla created the Kayla’s Garden of Hope fundraiser. She is an advocate for Youth Mental Heath and has a personal connection with the youth program at the Royal Ottawa.  Kayla designs and sells custom handprinted flower pots with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the youth program for mental health at the Royal Ottawa.

From her pots, and specifically the confetti design, inspired the ribbon for the 9runrun medal. Kayla will be selling her pots at 9runrun, October 14, in Village Square Park.

In a time where so many struggle with mental health, it’s important to take time to smell the flowers and to be inspired.
