(Press release from the Canadian Military Wives Choir)
The Canadian Military Wives Choir (CMWC) are Hamilton bound! The choir is honored to have been invited to participate in the Canadian International Military Tattoo. The Tattoo highlights performances from military musical groups from around the world, and this year is taking place on May 30-31 at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ont.
The Choir, which practices regularly in Stittsville, began less than two years ago based on the tremendous success of the Military Wives Choir movement in the United Kingdom. In this short amount of time the group has grown from 14 to 54 military spouses and have participated in numerous events including a touching performance in the Senate during the National Day of Honor to mark the end of Canada’s mission in Afghanistan.
The Tattoo will give the choir their largest live performance to date. They will be performing a carefully selected set of four songs, three of which were written specifically for the Military Wives Choir movement. “These songs are a wonderful interpretation of life as a military spouse and what it means to be part of a Military Wives Choir”, says Sue Palmer, Choir President.
The CMWC are also very excited to confirm that the Middle Wallop Military Wives Choir from the United Kingdom and WO1 Gary Chilton of The Band of the Army Air Corps and a former member of the group The Soldiers, will also be joining them for the Tattoo. This collaboration between countries vividly demonstrates what the International Military Tattoo is all about.
The Canadian Military Wives Choir would like to thank their supporters and donors whose generous donations have made it possible for the choir t take part in the Tattoo, these include VIA Rail, Porter Airlines BMO Stittsville and Defence Construction Canada.
