(Press release from the Capital Karting Grand Prix.)
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and City of Ottawa Sports Commissioner & Innis Ward Councillor Jody Mitic joined Mr. Enrico Valente and Mr. Lew MacKenzie, (Major General Retired) Member of the event’s Advisory Board, in announcing the official launch of the Capital Karting Grand Prix (CKGP) to be held on July 25 & 26, 2015, at KARTERS KORNER in Ottawa.
“I want to congratulate the competitors and organizers, in addition to the sponsors and volunteers for dedicating efforts, expertise and resources to the successful staging of this premier motorsports gathering,” said Mayor Watson. “I’m very much looking forward to seeing some of the Karting community’s best racers come to Ottawa.”
Organized by PODIUM Special Events Management Inc. the CKGP has very enthusiastic strategic partners including the National Capital Kart Club, the City of Ottawa, Ottawa Tourism and KARTERS KORNER, as well as a number of generous sponsors such as Scotiabank, Krown, Decisive and Access Rigging.
“Organizing this motorsports festival weekend has been an amazing thrill and a privilege” stated Mr. Valente. “The National Capital Region has a very dynamic motorsports community. This race weekend will become a major annual event and, more importantly, it is free to the public and a great time for the entire family!”
Aside from some exciting Kart Racing involving competitive racers from Ontario, Quebec and the USA, this event also has a large charitable component – The MAYOR’s CUP of WISHES – that engages and involves the corporate community to have some fun with Karting and raise significant dollars for select charities that include: Children’s Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the HERA Mission, Ottawa Senators Foundation, Roger’s House and SOLDIER ON.
“The MAYOR’s CUP of WISHES will support outstanding charities in our community” said Mr. Mitic. “I encourage local corporate, companies and clubs to enter a challenge team to help raise vital funds for these exceptional charity partners”.
