New Stittsville Business Association meets for breakfast on November 14

Out of the ashes of the Stittsville Business Improvement Area comes a new Stittsville Business Association.

You may recall earlier this year when a group of local businesses proposed establishing a Business Improvement Area (BIA). That would have been a local management board made up of local business members, and funded via a property tax levy.

Over several meetings in the summer, local businesses rejected that plan, but there’s a new business-led initiative in the works.

The Stittsville Business Association is holding a breakfast meeting at ALE in Amberwood on November 14 from 7:30am-9:30am. Tickets are $15 each and include a full breakfast including tax and tip.  All Stittsville businesses are welcome to attend.

Alan Ryan, a former Goulbourn Township councillor, is serving as chair of a streeting committee. He says the breakfast meeting is to gather feedback and information from the local business community to help decide what role the business association could play, and what kind of activities they want to be involved in.

“The majority of businesses didn’t want a BIA, but they still want to do something to help the business community. Whether that’s networking, an online directory, a shop local campaign, or fundraising — that’s what we want to hear from businesses at this breakfast,” says Ryan.

Other committee members include Andrea Cochran (Mohogany Salon), Joanne McKenna (McDonald’s), Daryl Metzger (Edward Jones), and Phil Sweetnam (PBC Sweetnam).

Tickets for the breakfast are available directly from any of the commitee members, or at Bradleys Insurance (1469 Stittsville Main Street). For more information contact Alan Ryan at 613-875-8718.
