The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges against one suspect in connection to a recent robbery of a west end jewellery store.  An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect.

On July 29, 2015, at about 1:00 pm, a man entered a jewellery store in the Hazeldean Mall.  He proceeded to a display case, pulled out a hammer and smashed the display.  The suspect took an undisclosed quantity of jewellery.  At one point during the course of the robbery, the suspect displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband.  He threatened to kill a witness if he interfered.  The suspect fled to a waiting vehicle occupied by a second suspect.  The vehicle was then dumped at a nearby location on Abbeyhill Rd.  The suspects got into another vehicle parked at the same location and fled the area.

That abandoned vehicle was determined to have been stolen from Montreal on or about July 23, 2015.  Evidence from within the recovered vehicle led investigators to potentially link the suspects to a July 27, 2015 break & enter on Mansfield Road in Ottawa.

On July 31, 2015, police in Repentigny, Quebec stopped the vehicle used by the suspects to flee the area of the robbery for a traffic infraction.  The officer arrested the passenger, William HUGHES on a parole warrant.  The driver, Robert WEBB, was not arrested at that time.

William Hughes, age 38 of Ottawa, and Robert Webb, age 44, are jointly charged with the following offences:

*       Robbery with a firearm
*       Theft of a motor vehicle
*       Three counts of possession property obtained by crime under $5000
*       Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
*       One count uttering threats

Robert Webb is additionally charged with two counts of breach of probation.

On August 11, 2015, an arrest warrant was issued for Robert Webb on the aforementioned charges.   Webb is described as being 6’2″, 240 lbs, blonde hair and blue eyes.  He has tattoos of a snake and initials “BG” on his neck, a tear under his left eye, and a spider web on his right elbow (images attached.)

William Hughes appears in court next on September 22, 2015. He remains in custody.

Anyone with information with respect to this robbery, or the whereabouts of Robert Webb, is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116.
