Police lay charges involving firearms investigation – search warrant executed in Stittsville

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Guns and Gangs Unit charged Joseph Michael Douglas Shaver, 31 years old, of Ottawa following a six week firearm and drug investigation, that was initiated following information received by the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Shaver was arrested by the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Unit yesterday and a search warrant was executed at a residence in Stittsville. The items seized by police include:

  • Sig Sauer P226 semi-automatic handgun
  • 22 calibre bullets in magazine with gun
  • P80 Glock style handgun 
  • Box of 9MM Luger bullets with gun
  • Silencer for the Sig Sauer handgun
  • Assortment of firearm parts (rails, light, trigger pieces and spare barrel)
  • Cocaine, cannabis marihuana, shatter (brittle, glass-like cannabis extract), crystal methamphetamine, hashish, a hydraulic press, and
  • Canadian currency

Shaver was charged with several firearms and drug related offences. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 15, 2021. The Ottawa Police investigation continues.
