Jackson Trails resident Sandy Faux received a VOscar award on Thursday night at a gala organized by Volunteer Ottawa.
The VOscars are an awards program that celebrates, encourages and honours those who inspire, support and advance volunteerism in our community.
Faux relocated to Stittsville seven years ago to be closer to her daughter and family. Sandy has always loved music and enjoyed a busy jazz career in Toronto prior to her move. Looking for a way to be involved in her granddaughter’s school, Sandy began volunteering at Stittsville Public school in 2008 and quickly spread the joy of music throughout the building.
Working with students from junior kindergarten to grade six, Sandy leads music lessons, conducts choirs and concerts. She has directed large scale musical productions including 2015’s You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. She brings professional musicians into the school to demonstrate their skills and instruments. Students at SPS look forward to ‘Tune in Tuesday’, when Sandy and a different student each week showcase popular songs over the PA system as students enter the school.
Her presence in the school is appreciated by staff and students who benefit from her enthusiasm, expertise and passion for the arts.
“CONGRATULATIONS” To one very “SPECIAL” Lady I am so Proud to call my Friend. How lucky all those students are to have had the Honour of such a talented and wonderful person teaching them music. Their Memories along with your own will last a Lifetime. I am so Happy for you, you deserve this award.
Love You My Talented Wonderful Friend
Sandy xo
