On Monday, 25 team members from Stantec helped with the harvest at the Black Family Farm near Stittsville for the Ottawa Food Bank.

An additional team of 12 Stantec employees helped to sort and box food at the  Ottawa Food Bank headquarters in the east end.

The Black Family Farm, located on Mansfield Road south of Stittsville,  participates in the Food Bank’s Community Harvest program. In 2013, the farm produced over 53,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables on four acres of land.

The Ottawa Food Bank runs several community programs that encourage local companies to volunteer their time and services to help the organization.

“We helped to harvest carrots and beets at the farm,” says Ange-Tina Brekalo.  “The team at the warehouse spent their time checking and sorting reclamation food (food that came directly from the grocery stores which can’t be sold).”

The teams were celebrating Stantec in the Community Day, a day of worldwide volunteerism across the international design firm.  More than 5,500 Stantec employees  volunteered at community organizations in Canada, the United States, Barbados, the UK, the UAE and India.
