It has been 15 years since a youth synchronized skating team representing the Ottawa area has competed at the Canadian Nationals for Synchronized Skating. The Starlight team from the Goulbourn Skating Club located in Stittsville will be doing just this!

The Canadian Nationals take place from February 22-24 in Waterloo, Ontario. You have one more chance to see the Starlight team in practice at the Goulbourn Rec Complex between 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on February 21. Immediately after the practice, the team will be leaving on their bus for the trip to Waterloo.

Also competing are The National Capital Ice Caps, an older team comprised of adults from Ottawa. The following photo is of the Starlight and The National Capital Ice Caps teams.

An official send-off was held this past week in Stittsville for the Starlight team. During the ceremony, the team received a special gift that will be travelling with them to Waterloo. They were presented with Ottawa’s flag from Councillor Glen Gower. You can be assured that this will be waved in the viewing stands as the team performs. Councillor Gower gave some words of encouragement to the girls and wished them luck in their competition.

The Starlight team will be skating in the Novice Free Program 1 on Saturday, February 23 at 9:00 a.m.

The National Capital Ice Caps will be performing in the Open Synchro Free Program 1. Their program can be seen on Saturday, February 23 at 12:34 p.m.

The Synchronized Skating Nationals are being live-streamed so you can watch their performance at Skate_Canada. This link to Skate Canada’s website will bring you to the event:  https://skatecanada.ca/2019-skate-canada-synchronized-skating-championships/

This is an exciting time for both teams and Stittsville residents will be cheering you on!
