Stittsville Lions Club and team diabetes partner with Toys & Toothpaste to make a difference

A Diabetes Open House is being held on Saturday, November 16 by the Stittsville Lions Club. From 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, you can drop by the Lions Hall and visit with exhibitors to learn more about Diabetes, speak to those living with Diabetes, while also discovering what resources are available in our community.

The Lions Club learned of the Toys & Toothpaste Christmas hamper project started by two local kids – Ben & Ellie Medaglia – through a story Stittsville Central shared recently. The Lions have reached out to the Medaglia family and offered the Lions Hall as a collection point to accept donations during the Diabetes Open House. Toys and Toothpaste will be collecting:

  • Food & toiletries for the ‘Y’ family shelter hampers (any additional food collected will be given to our Stittsville Food Bank)
  • Toys for the Angel Tree
  • Socks & mitts for Stittsville’s Stocking Project

The family is so appreciative for the generosity shown by the Lions Club and encourage everyone to drop by, especially their friends from the children’s sports team – Stittsville RAMS and the Goulbourn Rockets – to drop off donations. The Ben and Ellie also asked if the team members would wear their jerseys to show their community spirit and generosity to both ‘Toys and Toothpaste’ and ‘Diabetes Canada’.

Kristal, Ben and Ellie’s Mom, was as excited as the kids when she said, “Join us at the Lions Club to attend the Diabetes Awareness Expo – learn about your local diabetes resources & donate to your community and kids in need at the ‘Y’ shelter!”.

Make a difference in someone’s life this Saturday, by learning more about Diabetes and giving to a project started by two local Stittsville kids.
