SVA and SBA co-hosting all-candidates debate September 7

As the federal election progresses in our riding of Carleton, the Stittsville Village Association and the Stittsville Business Association have joined ranks to co-host the first ever all-candidates debate to be held in an outdoor environment. The debate will take place on Tuesday, September 7 at Village Square Park (Stittsville Main and Abbott Streets) from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The debate will be moderated by Allan Ryan, President of the Stittsville Business Association.

The federal candidates participating in the debate will be:

  • Conservative Party – Pierre Poilievre (incumbent)
  • Green Party – Nira Dookeran
  • Liberal Party – Gustave Roy
  • New Democratic Party – Kevin Hua

Each of the candidates will be permitted a 3.5 minute introductory speech. Questions are welcome from all residents of Stittsville. Should you wish to pose a question at the event, a ticket will be provided to you with a duplicate ticket placed in a container. The Moderator will draw a ticket from the container of duplicate tickets to determine the speaking order of those posing questions of the candidates. Those posing questions, have a one-minute timeframe in which to ask their question, with candidates having 90 seconds in which to respond.

With the current health protocols in place space is limited to approximately 100 people with health guidelines being followed by the organizers. The wearing of masks and proper distancing measures are expected to be followed by those attending. Bring along your own lawn chair. There will be a handicapped-accessible area on-site.
