Upcoming September events at the Stittsville Library

Every month at the Stittsville Branch of the Ottawa Public Library you will discover something new – not only in the books section. There are in-person programs offered for teens; young or new mothers; a seniors program; and workshops to keep residents entertained during the upcoming fall season. These are just a few of the services and programs offered at your local library – drop in and discover more at the Stittsville Branch today.

A friendly reminder that the Stittsville Library location will be closed on Wednesday, September 30th for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

English Conversation Group / Groupe de conversation en anglais – Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 5:15pm (series runs until December 30, 2026).
Join the free English Conversation Group to practice speaking in English in a relaxed and friendly environment. All levels are welcome to this drop-in program.

Stittsville Cozy Crafters – Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 6:30pm (series runs until December 30, 2026)
Do you have a portable craft project? Bring it along and chat with some fellow crafters while you work! Share your expertise if you’re comfortable, and learn about what other folks are working on (or just make friends and bond over your latest tv show obsession)! Knitting, crochet, embroidery, felting, beading, scrapbooking and more at this drop-in program.

Memory Café – Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 1:00pm (series runs until December 02, 2027)
An open house for persons with dementia, their care partners and families. This program is drop-in, but if you choose to register you will receive a reminder email. Fun and stimulating mental activities are planned to enhance the social interactions and the connections that are built within the group. Light snacks and warm drinks are served alongside items that aim to spark conversations and reminiscing.

Planner and Journal Meet-Up – Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 2:00pm (series runs until December 05, 2026)
If you love journalling, goal-setting, decorating notebooks, bullet journalling, stickers, art journalling, or doodling in planners, come meet like-minded folks at the Stittsville branch! Bring your own notebooks and any of your own stationery supplies. Share ideas, show off your planner spreads, and trade some stickers. Some supplies (like stationery, art supplies, stickers, washi tape, etc.) will be provided. Space is limited. Please register for each date separately.

Card-Making Club – Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 2:00pm
Adults are invited to join us to make their own greeting cards. Make cards for your loved ones for any occasion. Supplies are provided but feel free to also bring your own. All skill levels are welcome. Come along and have fun! This program is self-directed and registration is required – you will be placed on a waitlist.

Creative Writing for Teens (2026-2027 Session) – Monday Sep 14, 2026 at 6:30pm (series runs until Jun 14, 2027)
Participants (ages 13-17) meet on the second Monday of the month for a series of lectures, activities, and writing exercises. This program is hosted by the Stittsville Creative Writing Group and led by an adult group member. It is an extension of the group with the goals of fostering creativity and literacy in the next generation, inspiring future writers, and preserving the art of the written word.

Deliverables undertaken by this program include:
– Discussion on writing theory; 
– Practical lessons on writing; 
– In-session and independent writing exercises; 
– An interactive and supportive environment; 
– Appraisal and workshopping of ideas, and 
– Guidance on creative writing and practical advice about publishing.

Family Storytime with Stay and Play – Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 10:30am (series runs until October 20, 2026)
Please join us for stories, rhymes, and songs for children of all ages. Join other children and their parent or caregiver after Storytime for our Stay and Play program to meet new friends and play together at this drop-in program.

Babytime – Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 10:30am (series runs until October 21, 2026)
Stories, rhymes and songs for babies and a parent or caregiver. 0-18 months can enjoy this drop-in program.

Listening from the Back Row Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 6:30pm (series runs until November 19, 2026)
Do you like to listen to new, creative, and sometimes challenging works from local writers and authors? The Stittsville Creative Writing Group invites you to come for an open house of Listening from the Back Row. Registration is requested so we know to put a chair out for you. This is an adult program, with adult themes. Come celebrate the written word with us. Please register per program date.

Saturday Storytime with Stay and Play Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10:30am (series runs until October 24, 2026)
Stories, rhymes, and songs for children ages 0-5, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Join other children and their parent or caregiver after Storytime for our Stay and Play program to meet new friends and play together at this drop-in program.

Sunday Family Storytime – Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 10:30am
Stories, rhymes, and songs for families with children of all ages, accompanied by a parent or caregiver are welcomed at this drop-in program.

STEM at the Library – Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 10:30am – NOTE: Registration opens on Monday, August 31, 2026 – 10:00am
Engage those busy minds with tech-based learning. There will be multiple STEM stations to explore, create, and program for every level. Learn to problem solve, build, and create at the library. This family program is for all ages and children will need to be accompanied by an adult.

FoodWise Preserving: Easy Freezing & Scrap Regrowth – Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 2:30pm – NOTE: this program will be popular so it is recommended to register early
In this workshop, we’ll show some accessible techniques for when you have too much food or want to grow your own food. Learn about high-access ways to preserve food, such as freezing and drying, without the need for high-cost equipment. Watch our demonstration on how to regrow vegetables from scraps and the best method for freezing in bulk for long-term storage. The FoodWise workshop series from Foodsharing Ottawa is designed to shift the narrative from a chore-based “don’t waste” approach to a positive, discovery-based experience for food safety and creative food management.

Sensory Storytime – Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 10:30am – NOTE: Registration opens on Monday, August 31, 2026 – 10:00am
Join us for a program that features: dimmed lighting, sensory toys, a smaller number of participants, and an adapted circle time with stories, rhymes and songs. This program features open play, a short story time, and the chance to connect with other families. A family member or caregiver must be present for the duration of the program. This program provides a welcoming environment and respects the needs of children from 18 months to 6 years who live with developmental disabilities and/or autism, or who show signs of a developmental delay. This program is drop-in, but if you choose to register, you will receive a reminder email.
