Erica Wiebe, the Stittsville native and Olympic champion wrestler, shared this update via her email list yesterday, in response to reports that World Wrestling Entertainment has asked her to join the organization.
“Right now, I love freestyle wrestling way too much to do anything else! I am having some amazing adventures and I feel more motivated than ever to get better everyday. I can’t guarantee what will happen but I know I am enjoying it new day and I am trying to embrace and live up to the responsibility of the new title for the next generation of Canadians.”
More updates from Wiebe’s email:
I spent all January wrestling for the Mumbai Maharathi in the Professional Wrestling League. That was an insane experience living and wrestling in Delhi, India. I learned a lot about the sport, India, and myself. Since then I have been back training in Calgary, Alberta and I am about to take off to Europe for another 3 week adventure!
I head to Sweden on Wednesday where I will wrestling in the Klippan Lady Open and then take part in a training camp then I continue onwards to Ukraine for another camp and competition!
This is preparing me for the Canadian National Championships on March 24th.
Life post-Rio is certainly busy but I am embracing all the opportunities and am truly honoured by each new adventure that comes my way. I have been incredibly lucky to have an amazing support network that keeps me on task and sane. It is spearheaded by my psychologist, chef, business mentor, legal advisor, and boyfriend, James!
James and I recently enjoyed the Canadian Culinary Championships in Kelowna, BC where Calgary chef from Foreign Concept took home the big prize. We will be travelling on a Gold Medal Plates trip in June to Iceland as part of this fundraising organization for the Canadian Olympic Committee.
