APT613: Interview with editor of the new Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice newspaper

Nickie Shobeiry interviews Patrick Uguccioni, the editor of the Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice. It’s a new bi-weekly newspaper that will be delivered to homes in the area via Canada Post starting in late February. John Curry will be writing a guest column for the paper too.

An excerpt:

Michael Wollock and I worked together in the 90s. He had three newspapers in the city that he eventually sold to Metroland, who traded to Postmedia, who eventually shut them down. Michael and I have a history together. When he got the news about the community papers shutting down, his first call was to me. He said he’s coming out of retirement to publish. It didn’t take long for me to say “Yes, I’m on board.”

We put the importance of community papers right in the name of our paper: we’re going to be called the Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice. We also have three papers in South Ottawa. It’s very important for the community to have this avenue to get news out about everything from the stop sign at the corner of the street, to a hockey team winning a championship. It becomes the voice of the community – a meeting place for them within those pages.
