The opening of Ecole Paul-Desmarais is a really big deal (“une bonne affaire”) for Stittsville, even if you don’t have kids in the French Catholic school system.
Students in grades 7, 8 and 9 had their first day at the school on Monday after spending the first half of the school year at Pierre-Savarda Catholic school in Barrhaven. Over the next three years they’ll add a grade each year until they’ve done a full transition to a Grade 7-12 school.
The official opening was held on Thursday, along with an open house for parents. It flew very much under the radar for a lot of Stittsville residents, but the first school in the Fernbank lands is going to have a major impact on our community in the coming years.
The new school includes gymnasiums, an auditorium, classroom space, and eventually sports fields. That’s all new infrastructure that will be used for community events, sports teams, and more.
Stittsville just became a much more attractive place for Franco-Ontarians to call home. Some parents will choose to move into a community close to the school? This could have a positive impact on real estate values.
Think about the value that Sacred Heart students already bring to our community as volunteers and citizens. With this new school we now have potentially hundreds of new volunteers contributing to our community.
Bienvenue to the students and staff at Paul-D. Welcome to Stittsville!
