After several 911 calls were received that reported heavy smoke and visible flames were coming from a single family home, a large emergency response attended to a house fire at 6287 Fernbank Road in Stittsville on August 6, 2026 at 6:45pm.
Emergency responders with multiple fire engines, ladder trucks, and support units arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the 911 reports and upon arrival confirmed that heavy flames were showing from the front of a two-storey single family home and declared it a working fire at 6:48pm. Ottawa Fire Services personnel immediately began an aggressive attack on the fire, as well as establishing water supplies and assessing whether the flames had spread to surrounding structures.
As well, upon arrival, firefighters began searching the structure for any occupants – after two full searches were completed, no occupants were found inside.
Police officers also attended the scene to assist with traffic management and maintain a secure perimeter to allow firefighters to work safely. Delays on nearby roads were experienced by local traffic due to temporary closures and restricted access while firefighting operations remained underway. Medical services were also on scene as a precaution.
The fire was declared under control at: 8:17pm. A “fire watch” had been set-up to have a truck remain on scene to monitor for any flare ups.
Victim Services was sent to the scene to assist the family of five and an Ottawa Fire Services Investigator was also dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
