Attention film lovers and aspiring young filmmakers, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) will be hosting a free film screening for film aficionados. Whether you are a teen, a young filmmaker or simply young-at-heart, the Reel Youth Film Festival will have something for everyone and is sure to fan the flames of your film fluency in the most enjoyable way!

Join us Friday, April 26, 7 pm, in the Studio Theatre, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe. The Reel Youth Film Festival is presented in partnership with Reel Youth, which offers media empowerment opportunities for young artists under 20 through technical programs and workshops. OPL Reel Youth Film Festival will be a bilingual custom-made amalgamation of short films created by young people, with curated content from local Ottawa-Gatineau filmmakers. The Festival screening highlights the richness and the variety of talent of the next generation of filmmakers and is sure to spark new cinematic ideas for youth in our city.

The 80-minute screening will feature English, French and silent short films; subtitles will ensure bilingual enjoyment. There will also be a fun-filled 30-minute intermission, where attendees can meet other film enthusiasts over free snacks and mocktails, play some trivia or learn more about OPL resources available for would-be filmmakers and creators at our Imagine Space info table. Youth Ottawa and their social enterprise Hot Shoe Productions, will also be part of the scene to talk about what they have to offer for young artists.

You may recall that Stittsville Central covered Stittsville resident, Jesse Card, Vice-President of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) and his social enterprise – Hot Shoe Productions. Jesse has been instrumental in helping to find solutions to youth unemployment in Ottawa.

The Film Festival event is free and open to everyone who would enjoy celebrating and discovering the wise, witty and sometimes wacky video expressions of creative and inspired youth. April 26 promises to be a fun evening for all!
