(Press release from West Ottawa Soccer Club.)
The West Ottawa Soccer Club (“WOSC) announced today that Mr. Chris Roth will join the Club as of December 1st, 2014 as its new Club Head Coach. Mr. Roth takes over for former Club Head Coach David Hannah, who has recently decided to leave the Club at the end of November to return home to Scotland.
Mr. Roth, who holds an UEFA A Coaching license from the Irish Football Association, has previously worked as Club Head Coach of the Gatineau Soccer Club, where he was responsible for the implementation of all player and coaching development programs. In that capacity he among other things developed a winter development program for the Club’s academy teams, conducted coaching clinics, and assisted in the evaluation and selection of competitive teams.
Before his time at the helm of the Gatineau Soccer Club, Mr. Roth worked as the General Manager of the Ottawa Fury FC, where he oversaw the Club’s growth to a full Youth Academy set-up. While with the Fury, Mr. Roth also acted as Head Coach for the U14, U15, and U16 Boys’ teams, coaching them successfully in the Super Y-League, as well as for the Men’s PDL, and the W1 League teams over a number of seasons. As a course instructor for the Ontario and Quebec Soccer Associations over the last decade or so, Mr. Roth has also honed and proven his extensive skill in coaching coaches.
One of his key responsibilities with WOSC will be the head coaching role of both the Club’s U13 and U14 Ontario Player Development League Boys’ teams for the 2015 season and beyond. Based on his rich coaching experience in the community club, regional, and provincial environments and his track record of nurturing talents to the next level, Mr. Roth is excellently suited for the task at hand.
“WOSC is pleased to have been able to recruit a soccer expert like Chris, who brings a breadth and depth of soccer development experience to the Club,” stated TD Kristina Kiss. “Based on his global soccer knowledge and thorough local appreciation of the opportunities and challenges within our Ontario soccer community, he will be able to help us continue to move the Club forward.”
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build something special at WOSC and help the Club attain its vision of becoming the foremost development Club in Ontario and across Canada in the coming years,” stated Chris Roth. “The Club has a tremendous team in place including TD Kristina Kiss and Traian Mateas. I am looking forward to working with them very closely and taking the Club to the next level,” he added.
Notwithstanding the excitement about being able to add another high quality coach to the WOSC technical leadership team, WOSC is also very grateful for what outgoing Club Head Coach David Hannah has brought to the organization.
“We very much appreciate David’s efforts during his tenure with the Club, especially his leadership of our U13 Boys’ OPDL program and the initiative he brought to our coach mentorship programs,” stated WOSC CEO Bjorn Osieck. “It is unfortunate to see him go and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours in soccer.”
“I would like to thank all members of the WOSC family for their support over the last year and wish the Club all the best going forward,” added David Hannah.
