9RUNRUN ATTENDANCE BOOST
The final fundraising tally for last week’s 9RunRun won’t be available until November but the attendance numbers are encouraging. Organizer Brenda Tirrell says that combined, the three races had about 1700 registrants, up by about 400 from last year’s race.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HANG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
The Stittsville Lions Club is looking for helpers to string up the lights at Village Square Park. They’re looking for people who are comfortable climbing on ladders on Saturday October 29 at 10am and Saturday, November 5 at 10am. Contact Barb at bandblewis@xplornet.com if you can help. The trees get lit up at the end of the Stittsville Village Association Parade of Lights on November 26.

RE-ZONING FOR JINKINSON PROPERTY
The property owners at 557 Jinkinson have asked the City for a zoning bylaw amendment, to create a new Rural General Industrial exception zone. Part of the property includes wetland and forest, but the zoning change is limited to a small parcel of property adjacent to Jinkinson Road. You can read more and comment about the proposal here…

KUNGFU LUNCH
Back when I was in elementary school, the only hot lunch offered was luke-warm steamed hot dogs. Kids these days have a lot of choices: pizza, smoothies, subs, and more.
Kungfu Bistro’s Margarita Chen sent me a note this week about the food she’s serving at three elementary schools.
About 200 kids are enrolled for a monthly meal program at Stittsville Public School, A. Lorne Cassidy and Goulbourn Middle School. They have the choice between a gluten-free chicken and veggie dish served with rice, or BBQ pork with rice noodles.
“Healthy meals means healthy kids,” says Chen.

EDWARDS NAMED OTTAWA RIVER AMBASSADOR
Stittsville’s Kathleen Edwards has been named as an Ottawa Riverkeeper Ambassador. The Ottawa Riverkeeper is an advocacy group that brings together stakeholders to help ensure the health of the Ottawa River, the source of drinking water for millions of people in Ontario and Quebec. In this role, Edwards will help with a variety of fundraising and awareness activities. She previously served on the organization’s board of directors.
