AT CITY HALL
City Council gave full approval today for the acquisition of 5 hectares of Shea Woods. The City will pay CRT (Claridge-Richcraft-Tamarack) Developments just over $1.5-million for about one-third of the land … Council also approved a zoning bylaw amendment for 1620 And 1636 Maple Grove Road, paving the way for a 945-unit residential development.

FAIRWINDS WINTER PARKING PILOT
Orange paint marks the location of new “no parking” signs going up soon in Fairwinds, as part of a winter parking pilot project. Parking will be restricted to one side of the road on about 15 streets in the neighbourhood. The pilot project is supposed to ease resident concerns about emergency vehicle access and snowplow service. Parking restrictions will be in effect from December 1 to March 30. Speaking of Fairwinds, I’m working with some neighbours in Bryanston Gate and Poole Creek Village to organize a tongue-in-cheek “celebration” to mark the opening of the Rosehill Expressway, and the closure of Johnwoods. That’s on Sunday at noon. More info here…

STITTSVILLE’S CONNECTION TO THE WEST CARLETON WAR MEMORIAL
The West Carleton War Memorial in Carp was recently recognized by the City of Ottawa with an urban design award. Stittsville resident Malcolm Wildeboer (of Vandenberg and Wildeboer Architects Inc.) designed the monument. It’s located down the hill behind Alice’s Cafe in Carp, also one of Wildeboer’s projects. CROSSING BRIDGE SQUARE
Pet Valu is moving across the parking lot at 1250 Main Street into the building that was previously home to Stereo Plus & Design, and before that, The Beer Store. The new signs went up this week.

CONSTRUCTION AT HAZELDEAN & MAIN
Via Shad Qadri: “The work being done is to connect the sanitary sewers to the new Hazeldean Gardens retirement residence at the corner of Stittsville Main and Hazeldean. The work is now going to go down Main street to Neil to connect to the work that has already taken place on Neil. Traffic will be controlled during this time.”
