Family Day weekend offers lots of fun in Stittsville

What have you planned to take in this Family Day weekend? There is so much going on in our neck of the woods, here are some ideas guaranteed to make it a fun, jam-packed time for all the family, all weekend –

Saturday, February 16 – you can take in the Goulbourn Township Historical Society’s Heritage Day event at the Stittsville Library from 1:30 – 4:00pm. It promises to enlighten you with ‘Olde Tyme Cooking’ techniques and recipes. There will be displays of some ‘primitive’ cooking utensils, along with food tasting and so much more. While you are there, don’t forget to enjoy the ‘Yesterday and Today’ photos on the Library Wall! Help GTHS celebrate Heritage Month.

Sunday, February 17 – head over to the Stittsville United Church at 6255 Fernbank Road and enjoy the documentary “Won’t you be my Neighbour”, a Mr. Rogers presentation. In between showings, there will be a pot-luck dinner at 5:30. Showtimes are at 3:00pm and at 7:00pm with free popcorn and snacks. You don’t want to miss Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville’s documentary.

Monday, February 18 – Start off your day with your Member of Parliament, Pierre Poilievre for a free pancake breakfast and free skate from 10:00 – 12:00. (RSVP please to pierremp.ca or call 613-692-3331). Takes place at the Johnny Leroux Community Centre, 10 Warner-Colpitts Lane.

Then, head over to the Goulbourn Rec Complex on Shea Road from 10:00 – 3:15. There are events planned for all from family fitness classes, Kindergym, crafts and a photo booth. You can also enjoy a free swim in the afternoon or skate from 11:00am – 1:00pm and then again from 1:15pm – 3:15 with hot chocolate compliments of Councillor Glen Gower.

And, if you’re still not tuckered out, Kevin and Alli over at The Jack Ketch are holding their 2nd Annual Family Day Pig Roast/Sugar Shack. Some other locals will be giving them a hand – Saunders Farm, Quitters Coffee and the Soup Master herself @Monique Marie. From the pig roast to waffles there will be something for everyone. Cost is $20 for adults and $12 for kids (under 12) from 11:00am – 5:00pm. The Jack Ketch is located at 1536 Stittsville Main.

In between, you can attend all the local sports and visit the businesses that are open on Family Day.

After all these events, you can go to work on Tuesday and tell everyone how Stittsville is the BEST place to live and visit in the Ottawa Valley! Enjoy and stay safe.

And remember… No matter what event you take in, take some time to think about what we have today compared to the accomplishments and hardships our ancestors experienced in the past to enable us to make today’s memories.
