Stittsville Central made a visit to Eye Catching Art Boutique to discover what the ‘eye art’ was all about. We met with owner Cindy MacCullough, her sister Karen McRae and Cindy’s son, Chris Colon (who attends Sacred Heart High School). The boutique is wonderfully filled with eye artwork and curiosities. Located on the lower floor of a barn at 2477 Huntley Road (where Mad About Patchwork is located), this cozy boutique promises to be a spot to find the perfect curiosity or have an unique piece of art created from a photograph of your eye, specifically your iris.

Not only is the focus on the eye art, but you will find decadent chocolates; sixty varieties of tea; customized jewellery; apparel and accessories; and giftware. You’ll find beautiful Alpaca shawls to keep you warm through winter’s coldness.

Notably Cindy shares, “Eye Catching proudly promotes Canadian-led women-owned businesses when I curate the items to be sold in the boutique.”

Carrying approximately 60 types of tea, “it can be mixed to create your favourite blend” says Cindy. They also host tea parties and have an avid book club of tea drinkers who meet around the cozy fireplace in the shop.

There are Canadian puzzles, bamboo hats and 3-D wood puzzles that when completed are actually functional. Local artisans have an area that displays their artistic cards and there is a special spot for children’s items.

It was the iris artwork that caught our eye and we would be remiss if we didn’t have a piece of art created. Chris plays an important role in the boutique as the photographer. He is also responsible for creating the graphics for the business.

Expanding beyond the shop, Cindy also hosts yoga classes for up to 20 participants. She also offers classes to create mala beads neckware. Mala beads are a functional piece of jewellery, not only are they a tool for counting mantra, but they are also quite beautiful and feel natural to wear.

“I want to support women and it is free to use our space to encourage social interaction and discover new friendships,” said Cindy.

When you visit, customers are offered coffee, tea or hot chocolate to enjoy while you are browsing and choosing that perfect gift. The boutique has a feel of hominess and anyone visiting will be pleasantly surprised. Your purchases and framed unique to you eye art are beautifully wrapped in a gift bag.
