MEC Century Ride adds ‘epic’ 160k cycle route from Carp

MEC Century Ride

(via Mountain Equipment Co-Op)

Rolling through Ontario’s premier riding country, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is hosting an epic imperial century ride – that’s a distance of 160 kilometers via bike! On August 23 up to 500 cyclists can choose from three brand new routes starting in Carp, just north of Stittsville

MEC has once again teamed up with Alice’s Village Café, a favourite hotspot for Ottawa’s avid cyclist community, Beau’s All Natural brewery, and Vrtucar car sharing to give cyclists the fuel and on-road support they will need to complete their ride along with a tasty post-ride reward.

Last year’s MEC Century Ride drew in 200 riders, taking them through beautiful Lanark County, as far as Almonte, and back again. This year’s ride will offer up all the same breathtaking scenery with a bigger challenge for riders daring to take on the 160 kilometer imperial century ride.

Two slightly less daunting challenges have also been mapped out for riders; the classic 100 kilometer metric century and a 56 kilometer loop. For a $35 fee, each rider can choose the challenge that most appeals to them. No matter the route cyclists choose, each ride ends with a delicious meal provided by Alice’s Village Café, and a frosty beer from Beau’s All Natural. Oh, yeah!

We are excited to announce that the MEC Century Ride will be contributing to The National Capital Region Cycling Bursary, a bursary supporting our region’s top, young cyclists, enabling them to attend national and international events. MEC will match donations made by participants and spectators, up to $500.
