Do you know any youth who wish to express their artistic talent in a mural project? In partnership, Crime Prevention Ottawa (CPO) and the City of Ottawa, are offering funding for youth outdoor mural projects. This project, established 11 years ago, was put in place by CPO to curb unwanted graffiti in public places.
To date, there have been 82 mural projects receiving approximately $5,000 each involving 2,673 youth aged 12 to 25. The projects add character to neighbourhoods by displaying the artistic expression of youth.
Projects must receive a pre-approved mural location; have the involvement of a local non-profit organization with youth expertise; an artist or arts organization with expertise in murals; and, a representative of the proposed mural location.
Each mural should also contribute to a clean, safe and beautiful city; use the guidance of an adult mentor; increase the employable skills of youth; involve the community, youth and property owner in the design; and engage youth in all aspects of the mural project.
There will be two information sessions held should you wish additional information – February 25 in the Councillor’s Lounge at City Hall from 1:30 until 3:00 pm and another on February 27 at the Heron Road Community Centre in the St-Laurent Room from 5:30 until 7:00 pm. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP by e-mail at cpo@ottawa.ca or leave a message at 613-580-2424 ext. 25393.
