Very sad news from our West Ottawa Ringette community. Stephanie (Steph) Nugent passed away on November 11 of breast cancer at the age of 48. Steph was the loving wife of John and a best of the best Mom to Carmen. She was a beloved teacher at Roland Mitchener Public School for 21 years.

The West Ottawa Ringette Association said in their announcement, “Steph had been coaching WORA teams from the first year her daughter, Carmen, took to the ice in U8. From then on you were pretty much guaranteed to see Steph behind a bench with her black mitts on teaching girls the finer points of ringette, what to pay attention to during a game, and most importantly, how to stay calm and enjoy the sport she loved to teach.

Even when she was going through treatments, Steph was ever-present for the girls she coached over the years at both the regional and competitive levels at the many power skating sessions, practices, games, tournaments, and provincials.”

Steph was the daughter of Betty and the late Barrie Alexander, sister to Michael (Leah), the late Jennifer Botte, and sister in law to Jill (Milad) and aunt to Morgan, Laura, Connor, Adriana and Mikaela.

A private family service is being held at Cole Funeral Services.
