In a delightful fusion of community spirit and technology, the recent Parade of Lights in Stittsville was transformed into an engaging digital experience thanks to the vision of local business leaders Bengt Neathery and Jeff Robinson. The idea for a digital broadcast emerged just two weeks before the event, inspired by a conversation over several coffee meetings at Honey Coffee Bar.

Both long-time champions of the Stittsville community, with deep experience in the media broadcast and technology, Bengt and Jeff sought to enhance the parade experience for not only those in attendance but also for those unable to participate in person.

By generously donating a significant portion of the five-figure cost of the broadcast, their goal was to create a vibrant atmosphere during the parade while promoting future community events and increasing their visibility.

The ambitious project came to life with the help of a dedicated broadcast crew composed of 13 professionals skilled in various fields, including video production, audio engineering, lighting, and on-screen talent. Their expertise ensured that the event was captured and presented in a way that resonated with viewers, whether they were in the crowd or watching from the comfort of their homes, seniors’ residences, or local businesses.

Producers, Bengt and Jeff reached out to several broadcast journalists and were delighted that the parade was brought to life by enthusiastic hosts Ken Evraire, Summer Steeves-Evraire, and Sam Laprade, whose dedication and vibrant personalities made the digital experience truly memorable. Their engaging commentary and interactions with the audience fostered a sense of connection that transcended physical boundaries.

Jeff actively sought sponsorship from several local businesses, all of whom benefited from the broadcast’s popularity. ”Working alongside each of the sponsors to create their dedicated commercials, we quickly recognized their commitment to the community” Robinson said. The sponsorships not only supported the digital initiative but also provided exposure for these companies throughout the broadcast as well as social media promotions linked to the event.

The generous sponsors for this special event included:

A special thanks to the Stittsville Village Association for their collaboration, and to Luc Therrien at Stittsville Glass & Signs for providing the space, internet, and accommodations. Luc and Nancy over the years have truly embodied what it means to be a community friend.

For those who tuned in, accessing the broadcast was seamless. Viewers could connect via their phones, tablets, laptops, or TVs using a dedicated link, QR code, or Roku channel, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to join in on the festivities. The digital broadcast attracted over 10,000 viewers, significantly amplifying the event’s reach.

In addition to the live digital experience, the Parade of Lights will also be featured on Rogers TV, airing on December 17, 19, 22, and 23. This extended reach will further showcase Stittsville’s vibrant community spirit and commitment to inclusivity.

As Stittsville continues to embrace innovative approaches to community events, the success of the Parade of Lights Digital Broadcast paves the way for future initiatives designed to bring people together, regardless of their location.

With the dedication of individuals like Bengt and Jeff, the future of community engagement in Stittsville looks bright. Stay tuned for more exciting events that celebrate the heart and soul of our community!
