Event Type

The Ottawa Heart Institute is currently recruiting patients at least 40 years of age for a research study that seeks to compare two exercise training programs or standard of care on exercise capacity and quality of life in patients living with permanent or persistent atrial fibrillation.

Participants will have health measures taken (such as height, weight, blood pressure, and body composition), undergo exercise tests, and complete questionnaires. They will then be randomly assigned to one of two 12-week exercise training programs (moderate-intensity continuous exercise training group, or high-intensity interval training group) or standard of care (control group). The exercise sessions will be free of charge and conducted at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

We hope this study will provide valuable information on the role of physical activity in improving clinical, exercise and mental health outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation.
