Wednesday, December 16 was the final weekly bingo night at the Stittsville Legion, ending a tradition that dates back until at least 1967. A strong turn-out of 67 bingo players were there for the occasion. Photographer Barry Gray was there to document the event.
“After 48 years with a heavy heart the Stittsville Legion said its goodbyes to our weekly Bingo on December 16, 2015. We are very sad to say due to low turnouts we called our final Bingo. I would like to thank all the people who supported the Bingo over the last 48 years. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped over the years and Thank You to everyone who helped make our last night special by making sandwiches. Thank you Barb, Thea, Julie, Tina, Bev and anyone else I forgot, we could not have done this without you. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”

Nicely captured Barry Gray!
It’s been 30 odd years since I last went to Bingo there, and believe it or not I planned to go this week !!! Does anyone remember Marilyn Golt, Dottie Graham and her sister?? All lived on Main Street. That’s what it was called back then. Papa Sam’s was Elaine’s house (or maybe Marion’s). The pizza place was Dorion’s general store…and the Dorion’s lived above it.
Its too bad the bingo is no more.
